Police Department
The Cordele Police Department has given me the opportunity to achieve a high level of training. I currently have over 3000 hours of training and hold ten certifications through the Georgia Peace Officer’s Standards and Training Council. Those would include Basic Law Enforcement, RADAR, LIDAR, Crime Scene Technician, Field Training Officer, Departmental Training Officer, Intermediate Law Enforcement, Advanced Law Enforcement, Managerial and Supervisory. I am also a General Instructor and have completed the Chief Executive Training Class.
Although I started college shortly after my graduation from high school, I had taken an extended break, and decided to go back at the age of 40. Since then, I have achieved an Associates in Law Enforcement and a Bachelor’s in Criminal Justice from Thomas University. After graduating from both the Professional Management Program and Command College through Columbus State University, I achieved my Masters of Public Safety Administration. I am also a member of the Alpha Phi Sigma National Criminal Justice Honor Society and the S.A.L.U.T.E. National Veterans Honor Society.
I have been happily married to my wife, Dana, for 23 years and counting. We have two children together and she currently works as a Paraprofessional at Crisp County Elementary. My son, Jarod, currently attends Crisp County High School, where he is involved in band and track. My daughter, Dakota, attends Radford University in Virginia, where she is majoring in Forensic Anthropology.
In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with family and the friends that have welcomed me into this community and into their lives. I enjoy golfing and wood working when time allows.
Hello, my name is Captain Jeremy Taylor and I am proud to serve as your Cordele Police Departement Admin Commander. After moving to Cordele in 2003, with a retail company I was currently working for, I decided it was time for a change. After my military service and ten years in the retail industry, I decided to commit my life to public service. I then began my career in law enforcement with the Cordele Police Department and have been serving faithfully for over 17 years.
I started my career with the department as a Patrol Officer in March of 2004. In 2007, I was promoted to the rank of Corporal and assigned to the Detective Division. After two years in the Detective Division, I was moved to the Administrative Division, where I performed multiple duties. They included, but were not limited to, Policy Writer, Grant Writer, Quartermaster, Fleet Manager, and Training Officer. In 2017, I was promoted to Lieutenant, and was in charge of several programs within the Department. I also performed the duties of a Shift Supervisor for a while during this period. In 2019, I was promoted to the rank of Major, and became the Patrol Division Commander. Finally, in 2021, I was given the privilege of becoming the Deputy Chief of Police and later in 2021 I was promoted to Captain and was assigned the role Admin Commander. In this role I am responsible for the supervision of the Patrol, Detective and Administrative Division Commanders, as well as directly supervising the Animal Control and Evidence Divisions.
